Where Martin Works
I work for the NewPage Corporation as the Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety Programs. My office is in a brand new buidling in Miamisburg, OH. NewPage was created on May 1, 2005 when MeadWestvaco sold it's coated paper division to a New York investment company named Cerberus (who also owns Chryser). We are currently privately held by Cerberus but one day will be going public.
NewPage started out with four paper mills located in Escanaba, MI (upper penninsula), Luke, Maryland (half the mills in MD and half is across the Potomic River in WV), Rumford, ME and Wickliffe, KY (near Paducah, home of the National Quilt Museum). On Dec. 20, 2007, NewPage purchased Stora Enso North America. NewPage doubled the number of employees and added eight more mills! Six of the new mills are located in central Wisconsin with a recycle paper mill in Duluth, MN and a newsprint mill in Nova Scotia.
Our customers include magazines and book publishers such as Random House, Time, Oprah, Vanity Fair and lot of catalogs like L.L. Bean, J.C. Penneys and Sears.
NewPage built a new corporate office in Miamisburg, OH. We be moved in August 2007. The ironic thing is that the new office is right down the street from where I worked when I was with MeadWestvaco. It's near the Dayton Mall and lots of shopping and resturants.
Many of my friends from my MeadWestvaco days have moved to their new corporate headquarters in Richmond, VA. I don't think any of them wanted to go, but the choice was move or find a new job. If I had stayed with MWV, I would have had to make a choice of either going to Richmond or quiting and looking for a job in the Cincinnati-Dayton area. I truely thank God that I didn't have to make that decision. It would have been difficult with the roots we've set down here and with Tim living in the area and Paul going to Miami Unv. which is about 45 minutes away. The Schneiders are certainly looked after!!
I was put in charge of getting the new headquarters building certified as a "green building". What this means is that we've taken into account both environmental and human considerations into the construction of the building. Things like low water vegitation and interior lighting have been chosen for it's impact on the environment and people. I get to work with some great folks, especially my buddy Brad who's managing the whole project. The building recieved three Green Globes out of four from the Green Building Initiatitve. Yea, I'm pretty pleased about it.
Here are a couple of the architect renderings of what the new building looks like.
